500 Senior Jurong Residents to Receive Free Medical Consultations Through Enhanced Project Big Heart 2016

Project Big Heart 2016 to include medical consultations, health screenings, eye cataract consultations and health talk

1. Jurong Central Grassroots Organisations (GROs), in partnership with Fullerton Healthcare, Atlas Eye Specialist Care and Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre, will be organising a Health Carnival for residents as part of the enhanced Project Big Heart on 28 February 2016, Sunday. DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs will be joining us in this event.
2. This year, Project Big Heart has expanded its scope of offerings to provide even more services to patients. In addition to providing free medical consultations and medicine to financially challenged families or elderly residents in Jurong, the following enhancements will also be offered to residents at the Health Carnival:
(i). Free cataract (eye) screening for Singaporeans residing in Jurong GRC by Dr. David Chan, an experienced Ophthalmologist and                                   team of nurses from Atlas Eye Specialist Centre,
(ii). Health screening for Singaporeans residing in Jurong, by Fullerton Healthcare doctors and nurses which includes measuring of                                   BMI, blood pressure and blood glucose tests at a nominal cost of $2.00, (fee will be waived for financially challenged families),                                       and
(iii). Free health talk on “The effectiveness of alternative medicine in managing chronic diseases” by Dr. Kwong Seh Meng.

3. “I am glad that the Project Big Heart has been upgraded. It is providing more variety of medical assessments including free cataract eye check. It has also cast its net wider to reach out to more residents from different parts of Jurong. The project has been well received by the residents and we hope that the collaboration with the Fullerton Healthcare Group can continue to grow.” said Mr. Ang Wei Neng, Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs.
4. “One of our core values at Fullerton Healthcare is giving back to the community, and building on the success of last year’s Project Big Heart initiatives, we have expanded the service offerings of the programme, “ said Dr. Daniel Chan: Group Deputy CEO and Co-Founder of Fullerton Healthcare. Chan continued, “We are proud that the initiative treated over 1,000 patients in its first year, and look forward to bringing affordable and accessible healthcare to many more in the communities in which we operate in 2016.”
5. Jurong Central residents holding either a Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) or Pioneer Generation (PG) card are able to participate in the Health Carnival. 500 Jurong residents are expected to benefit from the Health carnival on 28 February 2016.
6. Started in January 2015, Project Big Heart began as a joint initiative between Jurong Central GROs, Fullerton Healthcare and Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong). This project aims to bring both corporate and community partners together, to provide low-income and elderly residents with chronic illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol with free/low cost medical consultation and medicine to better manage their medical conditions. More than 1,000 patients have been treated since the initiative first started.

About Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong)

Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong Central) was officially opened on 4 December 2004 by Mr Lim Boon Heng, former Minister, Prime Minister’s Office (2001-2011), former Member of Parliament for Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC). It is a one-stop social service centre situated at Block 316 Jurong East Street 32 #01-279. The centre takes on social and welfare projects within Jurong GRC and synergies with other VWOs in Jurong to enhance our collective service to the community. The organisation was renamed as Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong) in 2012 to reflect its objective of serving the residents in Jurong.
