JURONG CENTRAL GRASSROOTS ORGANISATIONS (GROs) PARTNER WITH FULLERTON HEALTHCARE CORPORATION LIMITED ("FULLERTON HEALTH") & LOVING HEART MULTI-SERVICE CENTRE TO JOINTLY PROVIDE SPECIALISED HEALTH CHECKS TO THE DOORSTEP OF JURONG RESIDENTS WITH PROJECT BIG HEART.
The 2019 “Project Big Heart Health Carnival” will be held on Sunday, 28 April for the residents of Jurong GRC, Yuhua and Bukit Batok. The event will be graced by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnum, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies and Grassroots Adviser to Taman Jurong GROs, Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Grassroots Adviser to Jurong Spring GRO, and hosted by Mr Ang Wei Neng, Adviser to Jurong Central GROs. National athletes and para-athletes will volunteer their time, along with the doctors, nurses and medical staff from Fullerton Health, to help the Jurong residents in support of this worthy cause.
For the first time, this year’s Project Big Heart also invites the Merdeka Generation to receive the free health check. In the past, only residents with Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) card and Pioneer Generation (PG) qualify for Project Big Heart. Besides receiving free medical consultations and medication pertaining to chronic diseases, qualified residents can benefit from a variety of specialised care services such as:
Heart Screening – recommended for chest pain, breathlessness, and heart-related issues
Orthopaedic Screening – recommended for arthritis, joint pains, neck, and lower back pain
Vein Screening – recommended for veins issue on the hands and legs
Osteoporosis Screening – Bone mineral density test
Evolving over the years, Project Big Heart has expanded to help understand and meet the diverse and complex healthcare needs of our residents. The organizing committee aims to continuously impact the lives of more people across Jurong and more.
Mr Ang Wei Neng, Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs said: “Project Big Heart 2019 has expanded both in scope and depth. We have, for the first time, invited Merdeka Generation to take part. The number of specialised medical screening has also increased, with physiotherapists on-site to assist residents with joint/bone pain problems which are quite common among those in their 60s and beyond. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists and lay volunteers for making Project Big Heart more inclusive, comprehensive and attractive this year."
Mr David Sin, Co-Founder, Deputy Chairman and Group President of Fullerton Health and Chairman of Fullerton Health Foundation said: “Fullerton Health supports universal care systems across the Asia Pacific region by providing affordable and accessible care through our healthcare facilities, and by raising public awareness of government subsidies and coverage.”
“In Singapore, all our retail clinics are CHAS-accredited, enabling Singapore citizens from financially challenged families to receive subsidies for care when they seek treatment with us. In addition, we have been working in close partnership with Jurong GRC since 2015 to help address the healthcare needs of its residents through Project Big Heart. We are pleased that this marks our tenth event,” continued Mr Sin.
“Project Big Heart has expanded steadily over the years. Since inception, more than 1,900 patients have been treated and over $250,000 worth of medication have been dispensed. We are proud of this achievement but believe there is more work to do,” concluded Mr Sin.
Media are invited to attend the Project Big Heart Health Carnival on Sunday, 28 April 2019, 8.30am at Block 312/316 Jurong East Street 32 Community Plaza.
